Unless you’re an absolute Battletoads superfan – and I can’t imagine there’s many of those out there – I’d steer clear of this comic book tie-in, despite some strongly appealing art. Even then, it’s debatable as to whether or not it’s really worth your time. The best thing that can be said for the series, which was the case from the beginning, is that it’s free. None of the characters – the Battletoads included – have particularly interesting personalities or any standout scenes it all just feels a bit, well, meh. It’s just not very exciting or satisfying, with the plot – such as it is – left open to be continued in the rebooted video game franchise, which makes the comic feel even more pointless, given that the story doesn’t even feel as if it’s completely resolved at the end. Can they and some new allies escape the attacks coming at them from all angles?ĭespite a bit of a reduction in the fourth wall breaking humour and references, it’s still a bit of a mess that tries too hard to be funny. This issue sees the ‘toads escaping the conspiracy behind the Fistival and coming to realise that not all was how it seemed at the beginning. I reviewed the first issue over a year ago and promptly forgot all about it, but covered issue two yesterday and thought I should probably just finish the series off once and for all. The three issue Titan series, despite being completely free to download, wasn’t exactly met with much excitement or acclaim either, unfortunately. Though the Battletoads saw a sort of revival with the 2020 Xbox reboot, any excitement about their return died down extremely quickly, with the game itself being met with a somewhat muted critical and commercial reception.
